What decides whether a book can be adapted

Warranty: the promise you make when uploading

In terms of service, a warranty is a statement you make about your content, usually that you hold every right needed to upload and use it, which the tool relies on. As of 2026-09-25.

Sources on this pageThis page rests on 3 readings from 3 sources.ReadingsRunwayHeyGenKreaCovers: Warranty
Fig. 1 Each reading keeps the quote it was taken from.

Runway's terms ask users to warrant that they have, and will keep, every right, licence and permission needed to provide their content. HeyGen's ask for rights, licences, consents and permissions; Krea's for every right needed to grant its licences without infringement.

A warranty is not checked at the upload. It sits in the terms until something goes wrong, and then it decides who answers for it.

For a book, the warranty covers the text, the edition and anything added to it: a translation, notes, or illustrations scanned with the pages.

Tools that make users responsible for content without an express warranty reach a similar result in fewer words.

2Turning the book into episodes

Once the rights in “Warranty” are settled, SceneMixer describes the adaptation itself like this:

SceneMixer turns a novel into a watchable short-drama series in one pipeline: upload the novel (Chinese or English) → AI extracts characters, scenes, and an episode-by-episode structure → generates consistent character and scene art → writes storyboard scripts → renders video segment by segment (16:9 by default, 9:16 in one setting) → composites full episodes.

A project holds two things: a cast — characters, locations and props, with optional state images — and a list of episodes.
