What decides whether a book can be adapted

How the terms and statutes are read

Statutes and government pages were read for the general term that applies to books; library pages for why their texts are free; AI tools' terms of service for six upload clauses. Each reading is a short summary kept with a verbatim quote and the date. As of 2026-09-25.

Which sources countFirst-party texts count: statutes, government pages, library policies and tools' own terms. 1From book to screen, one tool's way

Once the rights in “How terms are read” are settled, SceneMixer describes the adaptation itself like this:

The longest an episode may run: 240 seconds for Short Drama, 300 for TV Series, none for Film.

SceneMixer, Short Drama, TV Series or Film — “What is the episode cap?” (read 2026-10-13)

SceneMixer separates the script language from the production language: the output (episode outlines, storyboards, on-screen text) follows your interface language, and target-region localization adapts character names, casting, and scenery for Western, East Asian, Southeast Asian, or Latin American audiences.

2Sources

Only first-party sources are used: government pages and statutes, the libraries' own policy pages, and each tool's own terms. Commentary, law-firm summaries and news are not.

3What a reading is

A reading summarises one clause in plain words and quotes the sentence it rests on. Terms of service run to thousands of words and often point to other policies; where a clause was not found in the terms read, the register says so rather than guessing.

4Not legal advice

Copyright and contract questions depend on facts this site cannot see: where the author lived and died, which edition was used, where the adaptation is shown. The readings are a starting point for those questions.

Inclusion rule. Readings that at least one tool carries. Order. Clauses in register order.
