Perpetual licence: permission with no end date

A perpetual licence is permission that does not expire: it lasts after the user stops using the tool unless the terms themselves say when it ends. As of 2026-09-25.

CapCut takes a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, perpetual and worldwide licence to user content. Vidu's is sublicensable, transferable, perpetual and irrevocable, and Hedra's transferable, perpetual and irrevocable.

Perpetual and irrevocable are two different words. The first means no end date; the second means the user cannot withdraw the permission. Several terms read use both.

For a manuscript, a perpetual licence means the tool's permission outlives the project and the account.

None of these licences hands over ownership; the book stays the author's, or the public's.

Where a licence is perpetual, the practical protection is what goes up in the first place: a scene, not the whole novel.

2Turning the book into episodes

Once the rights in “Perpetual licence” are settled, SceneMixer describes the adaptation itself like this:

A short drama episode has two jobs: stop the scroll in its first seconds, and make the next episode feel necessary in its last.

Voices and ambience are in the clip, and in the composited episode, with the episode’s score unless you turned the Music switch off.
