Uploading a book to HeyGen or Luma
HeyGen's and Luma's terms read differently on three of the six upload clauses: training use, infringement handling and deletion. As of 2026-09-25.
| Clause | HeyGen | Luma |
|---|---|---|
| Rights you promise to hold | You warrant you hold the rights | You warrant you hold the rights |
| Licence you grant the tool | Broad, including improvement | Broad, including improvement |
| Uploads used for training | May be used for training | Used during paid use |
| Handling of infringement | Infringing uploads prohibited | A notice-and-takedown route |
| Whether uploads go public | Not stated in the terms read | Not stated in the terms read |
| What deletion does | Not stated in the terms read | Kept only within plan or storage limits |
Inclusion rule. The six clauses every tool on the register is read for. Order. The order clauses take on every tool page.
1Where the terms differ
Luma's terms cover deletion, where HeyGen's terms read are silent. On rights warranties the two agree: you warrant you hold the rights. On licences the two agree: broad, including improvement. On training use, HeyGen reads “may be used for training” and Luma reads “used during paid use”. On infringement handling, HeyGen reads “infringing uploads prohibited” and Luma reads “a notice-and-takedown route”. Neither set of terms states visibility.
Which set suits a project depends on the book: an out-of-copyright classic asks different questions from an unpublished manuscript.
