What decides whether a book can be adapted

Do AI video tools make you promise you own the text?

Most do. Of the 24, 13 ask for a promise that you hold the rights in what you upload, Runway, Luma, CapCut and Animaker among them. Kling AI, Revid, Topview and Vidu make you responsible for content instead. Seven sets of terms read contain neither. As of 2026-09-25.

Inclusion rule. A source is listed when its own text states what the question asks. Order. Sources in alphabetical order.

None of the tools checks the answer. The promise moves the risk to the person who uploads, who answers for the claim if the text turns out not to be theirs to use.

For a book, that means the copyright question has to be answered before the upload, from the author's dates and the place the film will be shown.

The promise also covers the edition. A modern translation or annotated text can be protected even when the original is not.
