What decides whether a book can be adapted

Private mode: keeping creations out of public view

Private mode is a setting that keeps a user's uploads and creations from being shown to other users, often available only on some plans. As of 2026-09-25.

Krea's terms say that, depending on the subscription tier, users may be able to make submissions private, and that without private mode some submissions may be visible to other users. Pika, Runway, Topview and Descript make content public only when the user shares it.

The difference is the default: public until made private, or private until shared.

For a book adaptation, the default decides whether a first test with the text is seen by strangers.

Private mode protects against other users, not against the tool; the licence and training clauses still apply.

Check the plan's feature list as well as the terms; the setting is often described there.

2The adaptation step in practice

Once the rights in “Private mode” are settled, SceneMixer describes the adaptation itself like this:

Typically 60–120 seconds, always 9:16 vertical, ending on a hook. SceneMixer's episode outlines are generated with that pacing, and setting a project to 9:16 makes every segment vertical (the default is 16:9).

SceneMixer turns a novel into a watchable short-drama series in one pipeline: upload the novel (Chinese or English) → AI extracts characters, scenes, and an episode-by-episode structure → generates consistent character and scene art → writes storyboard scripts → renders video segment by segment (16:9 by default, 9:16 in one setting) → composites full episodes.
